Highways, Access & Infrastructure
Vehicular Access
The Phase II site will be accessed via the new roundabout and secondary access on Salisbury Road that will be developed as part of Phase I, and through the Phase I site itself.
There will be a new primary western access along the northern boundary of Phase I into Phase II site. This will continue as a loop road throughout the entire Phase II development and has been designed to accommodate a new bus service through the site.
A second eastern access will provide a secondary vehicle route into the Phase II development. There is also potential to provide an emergency only access point off Hill Street.
Highway Capacity
The traffic impact of these proposals is currently being appraised. All findings, along with potential highway enhancements, will be submitted within the Transport Assessment as part of the planning application and consulted on.
Early highway testing has assessed that the internal road layout and roundabout junction onto Salisbury Road have capacity to safely accommodate the additional traffic from this proposed development.
Car Parking
Car parking provision will be in line with the Council’s standards, including driveway spaces, parking courts, visitor bays and electric charging points.
Connectivity
The Phase II site is in a sustainable location, with amenities accessible by all modes of transport. The site is just over two miles from the Totton Train Station and within easy reach of public transport connections.
Our proposals prioritise active travel for pedestrians and cyclists to encourage sustainable transport through to Totton and the wider New Forest area. These enhancements include:
- Extensive new footpaths and cycleways throughout the site along the key main streets that also connect to Phase I.
- Connections to the existing public rights of way network and the public transport links beyond the site.
- Potential surface improvements to the adjoining public bridleway to the north and west of the site, providing a more user-friendly route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
- A proposed mobility hub within the heart of the development which could provide an opportunity to extend a bus service into this part of the site.
Phase II also benefits from the new public transport connectivity that will be delivered in Phase I, including a new bus stop on Salisbury Road, improvements to the footpaths and cycleways on Salisbury Road and a new signalised crossing near Hill Street to provide safe crossing of Salisbury Road to Pauletts Lane.
